THE RESPONSIBILITY OF FAST FASHION FOR ENCOURAGING THE SUSTAINABILITY OF COTTON WITHIN THE TEXTILE I

How responsible is fast fashion for encouraging the sustainability of the Cotton Industry is a contemporary and on going debate. Through market research and understanding fast fashions goals and targets to achieve sustainability,it helped me to become more aware and think about how and why the things I buy come from. By thorough research of understanding how fashion companies engage and promote environmental awareness of the Cotton industry, made me realise how not many fast fashion companies showcase this.

H&M were one of the main influential companies that encourage sustainability.Looking more into depth of their projects, they have an organic cotton range part of their conscious collection. The aim is to use organic cotton, where no chemical pesticides and fertilisers are used. This is a way of producing fast fashion and encouraging consumers to become more aware of the issues involving cotton, and how as consumers they can be more sustainable. In addition to this H&M are part of the Better Cotton Initiative which is a non-profitable organisation. This helps farmers to grow cotton in a more organic manner, and helps improve the livelihoods and welfare of the cotton farming communities.
