Journey through Lanterns

The Journey through Lanterns is a collection inspired by the vibrant atmosphere of Chinatown and the historical story of the lantern. The use of embroidery,print and weave reflects the craftsmanship of the decorative lantern designs. Vibrant and flaming colours,and flowing marks in design create the flowing movement of the lights.

The development of this project allowed me to try new skills and trying working in a variation of mediums. Seeing the journey from a sketch to the endless outcomes that are possible. With embroidery free machine stitch and dissolvable stitching allowed me to express the free flowing movement of the lanterns. To reflect the the ancient handcraft skills associated with lantern making,I wanted to incorporate screen printing as a technique to show this.
